Darren Ferguson discusses Peterborough United team news ahead of play-off rival clash

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has said that winger Siriki Dembele and left-back Daniel Lafferty are in a battle to be fit for this weekend’s important clash with play-off rivals Doncaster Rovers.

On Saturday, Peterborough United travel to Doncaster Rovers for an important clash in the race of the League One play-offs. The Posh currently sit in 6th place on 49 points, with Doncaster are one in 7th two points behind.

Neither side goes into the game in particularly good form. Posh haven’t won a league game in four matches, while Doncaster are winless in three.

Darren Ferguson is on the lookout for his first win back at London Road after returning for his third spell with the club, and will be hoping that they can start their promotion charge with a win at the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend.

The Posh will be without playmaker Lee Tomlin, however. He was controversially sent off for a second bookable offence, raising his arm to Plymouth man Ryan Edwards, who fell theatrically to the ground. Ferguson has however seen the positives of Tomlin’s absence.

“Lee not being able to play means we can spend a full fortnight on getting him fitter,” Ferguson told the Peterborough Telegraph.

“We need to get some weight off so he’s ready to play a big part in the final 14 games.

“When I saw the incident back on the TV it looked like Lee was unlucky, but opponents know who they are playing against and they will react accordingly. Lee needs to learn he can’t get involved.”

Ferguson went on to state that winger Siriki Dembele could miss the game this weekend after picking up a knock to his knee against Plymouth. He went on to add that Daniel Lafferty is in a race to be fit for this weekend’s match.

“Siriki injured himself when going round the Plymouth goalkeeper. There’s a problem with a knee ligament and we’re hoping it’s not serious.

“Daniel came off late when he was struggling, but he’s been on a treadmill today which is a good sign.
